El museo en escena
Política y cultura en América Latina

Edited by: Américo Castilla / 2010

This book gives an insight into the historical context and the intellectual climate that have been surrounding the most emblematic museums of Latin America from the day of their creation to today. The authors – renowned researchers and museum managers with a wide experience – propose a fascinating debate on the dialogue the museums establish –or should establish- with their communities.

What is the main goal for museums? What are the particularities that define them? What is their role? Here are some of the many questions the book raises. According to the urgent need of coming up with vital and useful institutions that are consistent with today’s world, this book reflects upon the conditions of existence of museums nowadays, and suggests possible future adaptations.

As there are few publications in the highly specialized field of museum studies in Latin America, El museo en escena is an essential contribution and an indispensable reading for whoever is interested in history, cultural management and Latin-American studies.
